Postnatal hospitalization and self-esteem in mothers

Introduction Hospitalization in neonatology constitutes a narcissistic wound for the mother. This mother-baby separation disturbs maternal identity and generates strong feeling of failure guilt. Objectives To assess self-esteem mothers babies hospitalised during postnatal period neonatal unit to identify risk factors associated with persistence low 3 months after discharge. Methods was longitudinal, descriptive analytical study conducted between April September 2021. The sample consisted hospitalized department Sfax-Tunisia ranging from 5 15 days. Socio-demographic data were collected using pre-established form. Self-esteem assessed baby’s hospitalisation discharge, Rosenberg scale, 10 items, validated Arabic. Results 86 mean age 32.17 years. Low very found 81.20% cases when their 68.40% Some significantly related babies’ hospitalisation, such as educational level mother (p=0.017), an unattended pregnancy (p=0.034), occurrence post-partum complication (p=0.043) absence first smile baby at (p=0.008). Conclusions shows high prevalence following hospitalization period. concomitance several socio-clinical contributes this these mothers.
